Vehicle Description

Price slashed $7k! This is a very high-end professional build completed in Lake Havasu City, Arizona in 2000 (there are extensive receipts on the build). The car appeared in many car shows in Scottsdale, Las Vegas, and SoCal. Around 2013 or so, the former owner of the Main Street Market (now deceased) here in Groveland bought the car. He added the graphics, the Air Ride Suspension, Power Rack & Pinion steering, new wheels, and eliminated the side air vents just forward of the doors. At some point the car was no doubt repainted. The current owner, a long-time local resident and friend of the market owner, bought the car in 2016. Earlier this year the car won a People's Choice trophy at a local car show.

The car's build specs:
Chevrolet 350CI/5.7L Tuned Port Injection (1990s)
GM 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission w/overdrive and Shift Kit
Air Ride Suspension
Steering - Power Rack & Pinion
Front suspension - Heidts Mustang II
Rear Suspension - 4-Link Ford 8-inch (not coil overs shown on display board)
Brakes - Discs Front, Drums Rear
AC - Vintage Air
Paint - PPG Strato Turquoise
Sound - Modern multi-function stereo deck
Wheels - Billet Specialties

The car has a couple of small flaws where a buffer slightly went through the paint. On the trunk lid there are a few pinpoint paint imperfections, that are hardly visible. The rear bumper is very decent but would look better if it were re-chromed.

In June of 1946, Studebaker announced the America’s first all-new post-war model. Styling of the new Studebaker Champion was executed mainly at Raymond Loewy’s studios, with much of the work was accomplished by Virgil Exner. An all new “bullet-nose” design was brought to the Champion in 1950, and ran through the 1951 model year. The 1950 Starlight Coupe is featured in the Smithsonian National Museum of American History: "The 1950 Studebaker Champion Starlight Coupe attracted attention because of its ultramodern styling. Its center "nose" resembled an airplane, and its wraparound rear window and long, horizontal rear deck were radically different from "teardrop" cars of the 1930s and 1940s. While celebrating the machine age, the 1950 and 1951 Studebaker also marked a sharp break from 1930s streamlined or art deco styling and the beginning of flamboyant, futuristic styling of the 1950s. Studebaker led the way in this design and marketing change, and the Big Three auto manufacturers soon followed. Studebaker sales were fairly strong after World War II and reached a peak with the 1950 model."

The '50-'51 bullet-nose Champion Starlight Coupes are one of the most popular and sought-after Studebakers ever. This car drives and rides incredibly well, and is very comfortable at freeway speeds. We offer this totally complete and iconic 1950 Studebaker Commander Starlight Coupe at $32,900 - probably half what it would take to recreate it. The car is garaged in Groveland, "Gateway to Yosemite". We need advanced warning if you want to see it. The car comes with His & Hers 50s-style Hot Rod "1950 Studebaker" Jackets. We have a good financing resource.
